Sensei Ron Yeates - Kyoshi
Senior Instructor
Ron Yeates has dedicated 61 years of his life to martial arts. He opened his first school (Southam Wado Ryu) in 1972. He's the co-founder & Senior Instructor at Global and teaches youth and adult programs. He also teaches our martial art programs through private lessons and works with individuals trying to reach fitness goals. Sensei Ron started his martial arts training in Judo at the age of 12 and has, over the course of his career, trained in 14 martial arts systems, obtaining a Black Belt (or Black Sash) in 5 different arts and "Instructor" certifications in 7 other systems. Ron received his 7th Degree in Wado Kai Karate and Japanese Jiu-Jitsu in July 2022, from Master Instructor Rick Joslin (8th Degree).
Ron was a police officer for 32 years and worked a variety of assignments during his career. His theories & skills were tested in real street encounters against single & multi-attacker situations, and against weapons and empty-hand attacks. His teaching is based on his police experiences of what works and what doesn't work, providing functionality over theory. He encourages his students to train in a variety of martial art systems.
Due to his extensive knowledge and experience in martial arts, self-defense, and law enforcement, Ron continues to train police and military personnel and is a "Use of Force" and "Officer Safety" Instructor for Police Foundation students from various Ontario colleges.
One of his greatest privileges was when he was hired to provide personal protection to the late Rt. Hon. Lincoln Alexander when he attended social events. Ron held this position for 2 years. In addition, Lincoln's adult son, Keith Alexander, became one of Ron's students.
